Dale Johnson tells us how SmartVent helps not only the customer but gets JKM the low bid!

The owner was taking bids for installing 2” X 2” spacers over the top of the existing substrate and then installing another layer of plywood over the entire area of the steep slope roof areas.  This was specified to create a positive intake and exhaust system under the roof system  This would also required modification of the existing wall coverings, which is currently split logs.  This alone would have created quite the labor intense modification.  Again the estimates that the owner received would have cost him an additional $ 10,000.00.

We asked Dale what he liked most about SmartVent?

Smart Vent is the perfect solution for homes that do not have an overhang or have existing gutters.  Utilizing the Smart Vent in lieu of fascia vent or drip edge vent eliminates the need to remove and reinstall or replace the gutter system.  The other benefit to using Smart Vent is that in most situations, it is not necessary to install new baffles.  When installing soffit vents, drip edge vent or fascia venting, baffles are usually necessary due to the fact that the opening is well below the level of the existing insulation.

Was there a ventilation issue that could not be addressed by our product(s)?

Yes, although there is continuous strip venting at the overhangs, it appears that the air passage is blocked by insulation, and the other thing that makes this project unique, is that all the ceilings are either vaulted or cathedral, adding to the necessity of increased intake ventilation.  There are also several areas where reverse gable dormers are located where they block the availability of the existing intake.  The Smart Vent Valley installation technique will create more intake in the chambers blocked by the isolated chambers created by the reverse gable construction
