The SmartBaffle 16 is 18.5”W X 37.5”L X 4mm(thick) corrugated plastic with double bending routes at 2.25” in from each long edge. Each section is double notched for ceiling joist allowance at rafter eaves bottoms. Notches also provide breathing capabilities of the rafter spaces above the rafter tails. Also, each piece can be cut in half for double coverage at the eaves area to guard against insulation blockage in the open attic to form two pieces 18.5” square. SmartBaffle 16 is designed for use with fiberglass insulation or loose fill insulation.
SmartBaffle 16 is also designed for rugged, unbreakable use and handling. SmartBaffle 16 is constructed of non-collapsing material with lifetime durability. Ease of installation by the contractor is achieved by the design, engineering and technology inherent in the baffle product. There are many ways to secure the SmartBaffle 16 but the universal method is to use a 16D nail at the center of each side when installed against the roof decking. The nails are placed tight against the SmartBaffle 16, against the lower outer surface and ‘tacked’ in place securely, only driving the nail enough to hold the SmartBaffle 16 in place. Continue until the desired amount of SmartBaffle is installed and follow up installing the insulation. Insulation should fit loosely in the remaining rafter space to gain the maximum ‘R’ value (winter) and ‘U’ value (summer).
SmartBaffle is designed to allow 2” of air flow between 16” on center rafter spaces. Wider or narrower rafter spaces can be accomplished by following the directions enclosed with the product.
